What LawBar is
LawBar is a technology platform that connects you with independent advocates for online consultations. LawBar is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Any advice you get comes from the advocate you choose, not from LawBar. The advocates are independent professionals. They are not employees or agents of LawBar, and using LawBar does not create any lawyer and client relationship between you and LawBar.
Who can use LawBar
You must be 18 or older to create a user account. Advocates must be enrolled with a recognised Bar Council in India and must pass our verification before they go live.
Your account
You log in using your phone number and a one time code. You are responsible for keeping access to your phone and account safe. Please give us accurate information when you sign up.
How consultations work
You browse verified advocates and connect by chat or audio call. You pay by the minute for the time you use. Your first consultation with each advocate includes 5 free minutes. On public pages you see a price band for each advocate. The exact per minute rate is shown to you before you start a session, so you always know the rate before you are charged.
Fees and payments
You add money to your wallet and we deduct the advocate's rate for each minute of your session. On top of the advocate's rate, LawBar charges you a platform fee of 10 percent for use of the technology. This fee is added to what you pay and is not taken out of the advocate's earnings. Payments are handled by Razorpay, which is regulated by the RBI. We do not store your card details.
Refunds
Refunds are handled under our refund rules on the Disputes and Policies page. Please see /policies for how refunds work, including when a session is disputed.
Continue with this Advocate
After a consultation, if you want to keep working with the same advocate, you can send a "Continue with this Advocate" request. This is free. Nothing is shared unless the advocate accepts within 24 hours. If they accept, we share contact details both ways so you can continue directly. If they decline or do not respond in 24 hours, nothing is shared. This only happens because you asked for it and the advocate agreed.
What advocates are responsible for
Advocates are independent professionals and are solely responsible for the advice they give. LawBar does not check or guarantee the accuracy of any advice given during a session. Each advocate is responsible for following their own professional obligations, including the rules of the Bar Council of India and their State Bar Council. LawBar does not advertise or solicit work on behalf of any advocate.
What LawBar is responsible for
We are responsible for running the platform, keeping your data safe, and processing payments correctly. We are not responsible for the advice given by advocates, the conduct of any user or advocate, or the outcome of any legal matter.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, LawBar's total liability to you for any claim is limited to the total platform fees you paid to LawBar in the 3 months before the claim. LawBar is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for the advice, conduct, or outcomes connected to any advocate. Nothing in these terms removes any liability that cannot be removed under applicable law.
Indemnity
If your use of LawBar, or your breach of these terms, causes a claim against LawBar by someone else, you agree to cover LawBar for the reasonable costs of that claim. For advocates, this includes any claim arising from the advice you give or your professional conduct.
What you must not do
You may not share personal contact details in chat during a consultation to move the conversation off the platform. You may not use LawBar for any unlawful purpose. Advocates may not use LawBar to solicit or advertise for work in breach of their professional rules. Breaking these rules can lead to immediate suspension.
Suspension and closing accounts
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or misuses the platform. You can ask to close your account at any time.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Delhi have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If there are major changes, we will tell you by an in app notice and by email. Continuing to use LawBar after that means you accept the updated terms.
